My research continues to deepen as I advance in my psychological training. Centering racism, health disparities (including substance use and suicidality), racial trauma, and LGBTQ+ health outcomes, I am committed to developing public health and policy-oriented research that remains accessible to communities and stakeholders. By integrating these interests with my clinical training, I examine both the psychological mechanisms that support effective therapeutic outcomes and the broader systems of oppression that shape the daily health experiences of Black and Black LGBTQ+ individuals. Through this work, I aim to address critical questions of intersectional experiences across multiple platforms, including research journals, op-eds, policy briefs, and blog posts.

This longitudinal study examined how state and local government spending from 2010 to 2020 relates to later suicide and police-perpetrated killings among Black and White Americans. We found that every $100 increase in per-capita police spending predicted substantially more years of potential life lost (YPLL) to suicide and police killings among Black Americans, but not White Americans. In contrast, greater investments in housing and community development were associated with fewer Black suicide-related YPLL, and higher K–12 education spending reduced suicide-related YPLL for White residents. Overall, the findings suggest that reallocating funds away from policing and toward housing may help reduce racial inequities in violent death.
